Diana West - February 2022 Ten years ago I strolled into this boxing gym and my life changed forever. It’s all thanks to this amazing Coach. He made boxing fun and accessible. He pushed me and challenged me and sometimes scared me a little. He patiently helped me wrap my hands for the first several weeks when I couldn’t figure out how to do it on my own. He always took the time to answer my questions and pose for my photos and put up with my screams. He let me bring my friends and family and still opens he door to me every time I come to visit. This is the kind of coach I strive to be at @titleboxingdraper. I want the members who walk through the door to my class to feel the way I do when I go to @coacheiichi . I may not be the knowledgeable powerhouse he is when it comes to boxing techniques and experience in the ring, but I can bring the “Aloha Spirit” and all the energy and enthusiasm I got. And in case you ever wonder why we’re always “Picking Pineapples” during my warm-ups, now you know… it’s to honor “My Coach Eiichi”.
Kyler Nakashima’s Testimony March 15, 2020 Hello, my name is Kyler and I have been with Pearlside Boxing for four years. I started at age sixteen, a timid, scared, and nerdy teenage boy. I was a very shy and antisocial person. I spoke very quietly, softly, wouldn’t look anyone in the eye, and could not carry a conversation at all. Over the years Coach Eiichi has blessed me with many opportunities to help improve my self-confidence, social skills, leadership skills, and of course the sweet science of boxing. Ever since I walked through the doors of Pearlside gym, Coach Eiichi & Auntie Robyn welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like I belonged. Pearlside was like my second family because of the positive energy and how everyone was so helpful and welcoming, especially to the new members! It was a friendly and loving atmosphere, no intimidation and none of that stereotypical scary roughhouse scenes you see in movies. Over the course of practices and training sessions, Coach taught us to work hard, be disciplined, be dedicated to a cause and that we are leaders and role models to the younger kids that come to boxing. He talked to us about integrity, being dependable, accountable, and respectful to authority. Unknowingly to myself, Coach was teaching me leadership skills. He would ask me to lead a warm-up exercise and soon I was leading a boxing drill for the entire class! He helped build my self-confidence by letting me know that he trusts me leading and coaching others. Along the way, though Coach was by myside guiding and coaching me. “Speak up louder, smile, watch your body language, observe better, and use humor when appropriate while leading” he would coach me. One day, I hope to have the charisma that Coach Eiichi exhumes. Prior to coming to boxing, I had no self-confidence in taking a leadership position. I had turned down promotion opportunities at work (Regal Theatres) in the past but it all changed recently! All these experiences that Coach Eiichi gave me at Pearlside helped me build my self-confidence to finally say “yes” to the promotion after 3 ½ years. I cannot thank Coach Eiichi, Auntie Robyn and my Pearlside Ohana for the opportunity and my transformation!
Dr. Brian Panik - November 2017 First of all, the amount of aloha and donations these two give to the community is amazing, Eiichi & Robyn give often to the point of putting them in contention for one of the most charitable organizations in the State. In my humble opinion, by dollar and love, IDK, but comparable to Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center and the billion plus dollar Queen's Medical Center... strong work friends! Although they mention some intermittently on Facebook, still I had no idea myself after knowing them for years until recently. And heard of their efforts to help the homeless, U.S. Veterans, people in need in the community, nursing homes, helping brand new boxing clubs get started with equipment and monetary donations, feeding the hungry at Blaisdell on Thanksgiving Day and numerous other boxing outreaches "in & out of the ring"...it goes on and on! These two are so humble and those are the best to support. Stoked to be a part of their work and the Hawaii boxing Ohana (family).
Kealii Simer - April 2015 My name is Kealii Simer, owner and operator of Kealii Tile and Hauling. To coach Eiichi, thank you for the physical and mental training that I receive every Tuesday & Friday at 6 am in the morning. The physical part of boxing helps my body stay strong for the construction work that I do 6 days a week and the mental part of boxing is helping me be more confident! About 3 years ago, two men broke into my home and thank God my family wasn't home. I came home and caught them in the act...but again I thank God that they just ran away, because for the life of me I don't even know how to defend myself! However, although they ran away, it left me feeling afraid and paranoid at night. I was unable to sleep well, wondering if someone else is going to break in again. I didn't want to bring a gun or use a weapon, so I decided to go to PearlSide Boxing to learn how to box and defend myself and family. Coach Eiichi not only taught me about punching skills but also taught me about the psychology of fighting. How to avoid confrontation but yet always be prepared and aware of your surroundings. Never to let oneself be caught by surprise and to have quick automatic reactions. Thank you God for Coach Eiichi! He is an awesome trainer and now a great friend!
Bernice & Samuel Alama - Jan 2015 I love Pearlside boxing gym! My son Maika boy has been boxing there from 8yrs old. Coach Eiichi is a former pro boxer himself. It's easy to sign up to coach but never faught in the ring but coach did. So teaching the next generation is a blessing for us!;) aunty Robin is the sweetest wahine ever! Im blessed to lose weight, get fit as a fam & be a part of the PearlSide ohana;) Thats my second home!
Mike Malheiro - June 2015 Greetings PearlSide Ohana (family), Kate and I made it safely to our new (temporary) home in Virginia. It is with great sadness that we had to leave Hawaii and even greater sadness that we had to leave all of you. As I've said before, "PearlSide was my church!" Every time I left there, I left a better person both physically, mentally, and spiritually and that was possible only because of the diverse and caring group of people that make up the PS family. Hawaii is comprised of so many wonderful things. It's the only place we've ever felt we belonged. Unlocking the key to the true meaning of Aloha is very liberating. If only the world could understand and do the same. My four years at PearlSide helped me reach that understanding. Each and every one of you embody all that is RIGHT with Hawaii and the secret to what makes it the most wonderful place on earth. During our tour we faced some of the most difficult circumstances of our military journey to date. Without your help, I don't know how we would have made it. We're forever thankful for your love and friendship. As we embark on our last tour of duty, we'll carry Aloha to those we encounter here. We wish all of you the best life has to offer. Hopefully, we'll have the chance to meet again someday. With love, Mike, and Kate Malheiro...and (Mama, Roady, Carport, Tiger, Hercules, and Emily)[pets]
Tamara Mendez - Feb 2016 I have been at PearlSide for the last year. Whether you are training to box or training to better your health, you are taught the basics so that you do not get hurt. You are pushed to be the best YOU. You are taught not only boxing, but respect for yourself, your opponent, and others. The love of the people, the sport and sportsmanship are felt the minute you walk into the gym. I know that when I leave island, I will miss PearlSide because I will never find another boxing gym with this kind of atmosphere. I will definitely miss my PearlSide Ohana (family).
Jeff Louis - Feb 2016 Its truly Ohana. You won't find any other gym on Island like it. Coach will show you how to fight even if you just came in for a work out, and you will still get a workout. You will always get more than what you paid for. I am a huge Supporter of Pearlside Boxing. This is King Jeff Louis, and I approve this Message.
Adrian Tillman - March 2016 PearlSide is a great gym. Very friendly and family oriented. Great competition team and dedicated coach. I recommend this gym to anyone that comes to Hawaii for top quality training.
Melissa Cruz - April 2016 When we first came to Pearlside in 2012, we LOVED it immediately. We joined as a family.. Me, my husband, my 11 yr old daughter, and my 9 year old son (at the time). The environment was not intimidating at all and it was an amazing workout for each of us. Now, my youngest is now training with the boxing team and she's 8 years old... She absolutely loves it and always looks forward to her "training days". I would recommend the fitness class to anyone.. Without hesitation!
Brandon Kamaile - March 2016 Awesome gym!! Solid basics which are very important when it comes to boxing. When I first started going to pearlside like 10 years ago I instantly fell in love! Before going to pearlside I was training at other gyms but felt really outta place and not welcomed. Coach Eiichi is a very good coach and just an awesome person period. Easy to talk to and always has good advice not for just boxing but for life as well. His motivational speeches I still carry with me till this day. So if you're looking for a good boxing gym to train at you won't be disappointed at pearlside! They'll make you feel like family for that's what we are there... one big ohana!

Testimonial - December 2015 I am an active boxer fortunate to have been apart of Team PearlSide for 2 National tournaments. I was surrounded by a team of talented boxers led by Coach Eiichi Jumawan, the best coach in the business. An outstanding as well as successful fighter in the amateurs & pros. Not only is he a phenomenal teacher of the art but a strong mentor in life. He teaches you to be champion "In & Out of the Ring". Coach Eiichi's wife Auntie Robyn is a big part of the support system at PearlSide. She is the nicest person on earth and will make you feel like you're at home and part of the team right away. Competition is not required, you can come just to get a good work-out; it's fun, challenging, and you'll learn self-defense. A special thank you to my new PearlSide family for all your love, support, and priceless moments of laughter.
